The Mako Sharks Swim Club is designed to support swimmers as they grow beyond swim lessons, providing a fun and structured environment to continue building skills, endurance and confidence.
We bridge the gap between lessons and competitive teams, helping swimmers develop at their own pace while fostering a lifelong love for swimming.
| Practice Information |

Practices Days – The Mako Sharks practice 3 times a week: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Time – Practice is from 5:00-6:00 PM. We ask that swimmers make a concerted effort to arrive at practice on time and ready to go. With limited time, our coaches want to make the most of practice.
Cost (September-May) – $72.00 per month (Tukwila Residents & $96.00 per month (Non-Residents)
Frequency – Registration is done on a monthly basis.
We understand that life gets busy. Our swimmers are not automatically rolled over from month to month, providing families the flexibility to register for months that work best with their schedules.
Attendance & Refunds – There is currently no minimum attendance requirement for swimmers, but registration is discounted or prorated for any practices missed. Registration/practice(s) will only be refunded in case of medical emergencies, relocation, or sudden/unplanned closures by the Tukwila Pool.

Swimmers who have completed the Tukwila Pool’s swim lesson program through Long Fin are automatically eligible to register for Mako Sharks.
Swimmers with prior experience who have not participated in the Tukwila Pool’s swim lesson program are welcome to try out for the Mako Sharks. See the following tryout requirements for each level below:
Level 1 (Entry-Level)
Level 2 (Intermediate-Level)
Level 3 (Advanced Level)
Level 1 (Entry-Level)
- Complete 50 Yards Freestyle (demonstrating consistent side breathing and flutter kicking)
- Complete 25 Yards Backstroke (demonstrating regular arm rotations and kicking on the back)
- Complete 25 Yards Breaststroke (demonstrating consistent pull/breath/kick timing and ability to glide)
- Complete 15 Yards Butterfly (demonstrating understanding of butterfly timing and consistency)
Swimmers must also demonstrate the ability to perform a flip turn on both the front and the back, proper streamline form, and tread water for a minimum of 2 minutes.
Level 2 (Intermediate-Level)
- Complete 150 Yards Freestyle with minimal-no breaks (consistent side breathing and flip turns)
- Complete 100 Yards Backstroke with minimal-no breaks (breath control and flip turns)
- Complete 100 Yards Breaststroke with minimal-no breaks (proper timing, glide, body position, and turns)
- Complete 50 Yards Butterfly with minimal breaks (understanding of timing and demonstrating proper dolphin kick technique)
Swimmers must also demonstrate understanding of how to use/read a pace clock, perform proper Individual Medley transitions, and proficiency in dives off the start block and backstroke starts.
Level 3 (Advanced Level)
- Complete 50 Yards Freestyle under 45 seconds
- Complete 50 Yards Backstroke under 50 seconds
- Complete 50 Yards Breaststroke under 50 seconds
- Complete 50 Yards Butterfly under 50 seconds
Swimmers must also demonstrate proper stroke form, technique, and breath control. Swimmers must be able to perform all required flip turns, open turns, and Individual Medley transitions without hesitation.

| Competitive Opportunities - Summer Splash League |

While the Mako Sharks do not participate in year-round competitions, the Mako Sharks participate in a Summer Splash League with neighboring pools/teams: Covington Seahorses, Fife Fanatics, Federal Way Stingrays, and Enumclaw Eels.
