Lifeguards

The Tukwila Pool is currently seeking responsible and energetic swimmers ages 16 years and up to join our staff as Lifeguards.  If you don’t have a Lifeguard Certification, ask about our Lifeguard Trainee program which offers the opportunity to be reimbursed for the full cost Lifeguard Certification training (normally $150 for Tukwila residents, $175 for non-residents).  Prior to beginning the certification course, candidates must pass a Lifeguard Prerequisite test where they will demonstrate swimming 300 yards (6 laps) continuously, treading water for 2 minutes, and retrieving a weight from the bottom of the pool within 1 minutes and 40 seconds.  Click here to register for the Prerequisite Test & for more info on the Lifeguard Certification course.  Choose “Lifeguard Certification”.

Those who pass the prerequisite test will be permitted to register for the Lifeguard Certification Course.

  • This position is classified as part-time. Shifts are available in the morning, afternoon and evening. Shifts are between 4-7 hours per day, and 2-5 days per week depending on availability. Typical schedule may include night and weekend shifts. Lifeguards generally work between 10 and 30 hours per week depending on the applicant’s availability. Shifts assignments are considerate of outside commitments whenever possible.
  • Rate of Pay: $12.50 per hour for new hires with no previous Lifeguarding experience. Swim instruction or early morning (5:00am) shifts include an additional $1.00 per hour premium. Experienced Lifeguards are eligible for a higher pay rate in keeping with the Tukwila Pool Metropolitan Park District pay structure.
  • Benefits: Benefits include a family pass to the facility and employee discount on food purchases. No other benefits apply.
  • Start date: Currently qualified candidates may begin immediately.

Swim Instructors:

The Tukwila Pool is currently seeking responsible and energetic swimmers ages 16 years and up to join our staff as Swim Instructors.  This position requires the ability to work well with both children and adults.  Complete training for this position is provided and those that complete the training may have the opportunity to earn the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification.

  • This position is classified as part-time, and temporary. Typical schedule may include night and weekend shifts. Swimming Instructors generally work between 10 and 20 hours per week depending on the applicant’s availability.
  • Rate of Pay: $13.50 per hour for new hires with no previous experience as a Swimming Instructor. Experienced Swimming Instructors are eligible for a higher rate in keeping with the Tukwila Pool Metropolitan Park District pay structure.
  • Benefits: Benefits include a family pass to the facility and employee discount on food purchases. No other benefits apply.
  • Start date: We can begin your training immediately!

Water Exercise Instructors:

Water Exercise classes at the Tukwila Pool need fun, energetic people to lead them.  Experience not required, training is available.

  • This position is classified as part-time, and temporary.
  • Rate of Pay: $14.50 per hour for new hires with no previous experience as a Water Exercise Instructor. Experienced Water Exercise Instructors are eligible for a higher rate in keeping with the Tukwila Pool Metropolitan Park District pay structure.
